THE SPACE:
hideout Cocoon provides a feeling of a bamboo spaceship flying through the Karangasem jungle. The modern structure provides lots of daylight, yet it is very private and cosy. It can be largely closed up, providing great shelter from the wildlife or bad weather (and sometimes the need to feel enclosed is just what we all need. You can find a large comfortable bed with a mosquito net and multiple places to chill out. Cocoon is equipped with a kitchen counter with basic cooking essentials and cutlery. There is also Balinese coffee, tea, oil, sugar, and salt.
Every inch of hideout Cocoon is designed with ethical, sustainable principles in mind. The furnishings are hand created bespoke only for Cocoon by the hideout team at our workshop. Cocoon Bali truly is a one-of-a-kind experience. The bathroom has an outdoor shower with hot water, and the entrance is from the main building.
GOOD TO KNOW:
hideout Cocoon is the newest addition to our hideouts. The entrance is about 200 metres from our main Hideout gate, but don’t worry, you will be assisted by our staff with the check-in. The new location is perfect for those that really want a sense of privacy and adventure. A hideout in the truest sense. There is a private parking space at Cocoon. You will have to walk about 30 metres to reach to house, there are steps and a bamboo bridge that you will need to cross – so it’s better to let us assist you with any heavy luggage. It’s all part of the adventure and experience of reaching Cocoon If it rains, we keep two Hideout umbrellas at the parking space and two at the house.
All hideouts have their own private garden, and we do the best we can to provide you with full privacy and solitude. But please note that an occasional fisherman, bather or farmer can walk through the river. We are close with the local community and respect traditional ways. We hope you do the same.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
There is a custom bamboo waterfall that is fed by a natural spring that flows into the river. You might want a cool water shower to start the day while wading in the river. When you venture out, there is a large wooden deck that takes you to the private jacuzzi that can be heated upon request as well a bonfire that we are happy to assist with.

THE SPACE:
Horizon is our most adventurous hideout with open space design, on the ground floor, you can find a neat, fully equipped kitchen with stove and smaller fridge, cozy living/relaxing area (with extra hanging hammock), bathroom with outdoor shower, and indoor-outdoor plunge pool, covered from rain by large overhanging grass roof. Following the bamboo ramp, it leads you to a large round bed (240cm wide) with two-layer mosquito net, providing safety and privacy. And extra two guests can share the very top of the building, climbing the bamboo ladder leading from the ramp. There are two single beds there, that can be used for any kind of relaxation during the day if you are only two travellers. What a place for reading, cuddling and relaxing, the perfect place for meditation.
GOOD TO KNOW:
In the kitchen, you will always find Balinese coffee, tea, oil, sugar, and salt. If you don’t feel like cooking, don’t worry, we have a delicious hideout Bistro-a kitchen concept! We provide breakfast (included in the price), lunch and dinner, and all are brought to your house. We do not yet have restaurant seating, but you can enjoy the meals in the privacy of your hideout.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
There is no private bedroom in Horizon, all space is open, so the traveling party should be well accustomed to sharing the house together. It is a very playful and adventurous space – with large net overhanging the pool, you can climb up there by bamboo shelves or get there through the master bed.
The pool is heated to 31 degrees Celsius and it can be heated more upon request, free of charge.
Bamboo is well-known for its temperature stability, thanks to natural ventilation, there is no need for AC or a fan. It can be very cold up here.

THE SPACE:
Beehive is a set at a small private garden with direct view to the running river and small private pool. You can lock the gate and be in absolute privacy. There is also a tiny gate with steps letting you to come down to the river. Hideout Beehive is a two-storied house. On the ground floor, there is a kitchen, living area, and bathroom with an outside shower. And a lovely pool fed by the river water. This pool is heated to 31 degrees and it can be heated more upon request, free of charge.
The main bedroom is on the first floor. Set under the yin-yang symbol connecting with a hexagram star on the floor, giving the room an amazing energy vibe. The round bed has a futon mattress. The extra enclosed house is perfect for your +2 guests, rather adventurous, with a mosquito net as well. What an experience to fall asleep to the sound of a running river.
GOOD TO KNOW:
What is the Best Part About Staying in Beehive? Solitude. All hideouts have their own private garden, and we do the best we can to provide you with full privacy and solitude. Beehive Bali has a fully equipped kitchen. You can be your own master chef. There is also a plate full of fruits and your own smoothie maker. During your stay, we provide you with one scooter for free, including two helmets. So you don’t need to think twice how you will travel around here and reach small shops, restaurants or sights.
You can experience authentic Balinese lifestyle, cultural habits and observe many wonderful things in nature. Especially in the river, that is sometimes used for cleansing ceremonies. It’s a wonderful thing to experience. You can’t lock the house, but you can lock the outside gate to your garden.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
From the vantage point of your house, your gaze will be directed unerringly towards one of the most spiritually significant locations in the vicinity – the revered Campuhan. This is a term from the local Balinese dialect that refers to the convergence of two rivers. Locals have esteemed this place as a sacred sanctuary for countless generations. It serves as a wellspring of holy water, indispensable for various rituals and for purifying the body and soul.

Be careful. Hideout Falcon is an extremely romantic house. You might fall in love (again)! Although the house is in the middle of a jungle, being closed with large windows provides a larger sense of privacy and safety. THE SPACE:
This amazing escape is set in your private garden. The garden gate can be locked from the inside. Falcon has one multi-functional room. There is a comfy King Size bed with a mosquito net like you have never seen before. Lovely setting and relaxing area and a small counter with drinking water, a kettle for hot water, cutlery, cups, and glasses.
Falcon bathroom is partially outdoors but all and all covered, yes there is hot water. And we do provide towels, shampoo, body wash, and conditioner – all from the most eco-friendly sources on the island. We don’t provide a hairdryer – as it doesn’t comply with our ecological standards, where we try to limit all unnecessary uses of energy.
GOOD TO KNOW:
One of the most prominent features is the large wooden deck with comfortable lounge chairs, a chilling net under the palm trees and a large stone bathtub. The bathtub is permanently filled and filtered as a standard pool. It can be heated by request to hot spring temperatures – there is nothing better for the rainy season! The large deck is perfect for a yoga session or your exercise. You will find a few spots hidden in the garden, where you can dedicate your time to meditation and reflection. The small pond is for swimming as well, and rest assured that mosquitos are taken care of by many birds, fish, frogs, lizards and bats that occupy our gardens.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
You can also meet our very friendly cats and dogs! Please don’t book Hideouts, if you have an allergy to cats or dogs or if you don’t like being around them. There is neither dog or a cat permanently living in Falcon but they can pop-in for a visit every now and then. If you have any questions regarding living animals, please ask us in advance.

The building has two floors, on the first floor, you can find a neat, fully equipped kitchen, cosy living/relaxing area (with extra hanging hammock), wardrobe with safety box, bathroom, and entrance to the outdoor shower. On the second floor, there is a spacious bedroom, providing king size bed with a mosquito net. Right in front of the unique triangular window, there are multiple bean bags for reading, cuddling and relaxing, the perfect place for meditation or playing a musical instrument, all with a direct view of the shimmering river.

GOOD TO KNOW:
Scooter for free! During your stay, you will have available one simple, basic and older, scooter with two helmets. If you are a motorbike racer you might be disappointed. Always new towels and beddings are also provided. We love music. That is why we provide you with a nice stereo system and traditional Balinese music equipment.
Hideout is also a shelter for a Kikky cat, which is super cute and cuddly. You can also meet our friendly Hoki dog. They are the best security for night-time. Don’t book Hideouts, if you have an allergy or if you don’t want to be close to the animals. You can experience authentic Balinese lifestyle, cultural habits and observe many wonderful things in nature. Especially in the river, which is sometimes used for cleansing ceremonies and baths. It’s a wonderful thing to experience.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
The view from the house is focused directly on one of the most sacred places around, called Campuhan. Campuhan is a Balinese term for a place where two rivers meet. This place is regarded by locals as a holy place for centuries. It’s a source of holy water for ceremonies and cleansing the body and spirit. During your stay, you will have the opportunity to observe Balinese during their ceremonies and baths. Campuhan is a very magical place, attracting good vibes and positive energy.
You can’t lock the bamboo house, you can close the garden gate from the inside. From our experience in the Hideout, you can find an enormously inspiring environment, for your writing, music, art and work.

THE SPACE:
This tiny bamboo home is set in your private garden. The garden gate can be locked from the inside. Lightroom has one multifunctional room. There is a comfy Queen Size bed with a mosquito net. Lovely sitting and relaxing area and a small kitchen counter with drinking water (ask for a refill anytime!), a kettle for hot water, cutlery, cups, and glasses. We have a great stereo system available for your favourite music, a jack connection.
The Lightroom bathroom is partially outdoors, be prepared for the indescribably beautiful experience of a hot shower underneath the palm trees. You can enjoy a slow relaxing morning in an outside bathtub with hot water and flowers, which are ready in a basket for your arrival. The outside seating area is perfect for a yoga session, meditation or exercise. And in your private little garden, you can find a large hanging hammock and a small bonfire place.
GOOD TO KNOW:
Because the house is located near the river and rice fields you will be in touch with nature. That’s why is Hideout most suitable for guest who enjoys animals and is not afraid of a little bit of the wildlife. Lightroom is in rural parts of Bali, right in the middle of two villages. The house is set in a bigger garden, where are two more bamboo homes Hideout Bali and Hideout Beehive, as well as Hideout Bistro, where we cook and where you can find us during the day. We do our best to provide you privacy during your stay. But since the house is standing next to a river stream, you will encounter now and then local Balinese families or farmers to be fishing or walking by.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
We love being secluded from the usual busy tourist areas. Please take a look at the map to be sure you know at what location is Hideout Lightroom. We are 90min away from Ubud and 2 hours away from Denpasar and the international airport. There are so many things to explore around – by foot or by bike. Just to mention.. you can go trekking through the rice fields, you can explore waterfall Jagasatru, visit Tirta Gangga, Ujung Temple, go snorkelling or diving, visit the night market, visit shaman or local temples, go to experience Pura Besakih, have a wild day of rafting and many more.

THE SPACE:
Hay House is a tiny space with one large bed, mosquito net, and outdoor bathroom. Yes, there is electricity, hot water and even wifi! But we do encourage you to dim the lights and turn off your phones, you are not here to scroll down the un-ending feed, you are here to immerse in nature. Be prepared to be mostly on your own! You can reach us by phone or personally in Hideout Bistro nearby, but there is no 24/7 reception.
Count the butterflies, and sing with birds. Examine the frog, attached to your window. Be prepared to be in the middle of nature – with nature! Expect lizards, some ants, a friendly gecko or a bat. And prepare to be awed by the immense number of fireflies. Come prepared – leave your large luggage behind, and travel with only a small backpack.
GOOD TO KNOW:
Rice fields are your garden! Beware that there is limited privacy, and showering in a swimsuit is a must. Farmers can also visit their rice fields next to Hay House as early as 5am to take care of their crops.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
Hideout is part of local nature, our cleaning standards are at the highest, but that doesn’t stop occasional insects, furry caterpillars (that should have a sign – do not touch), frog, snake or mouse from visiting the house. Please consider this before booking and do not book this house if you are not prepared for an occasional encounter. We are immersed in nature. Animals are friends, not enemies.

At Hideout, we are sort of “DIY” designers and bamboo architects in Bali. We love to learn by doing. We also sometimes collaborate with renowned companies and talented designers, like “Pablo Luna Studio” and “Studio WNA”, who understand the intricacies of bamboo architecture, we see it as a collaborative process rather than hiring architects since we have our own experience, too.
With bamboo architecture in Bali, we have thoughtful planning and execution that helps us to create stunning bamboo hotels and furniture that blend harmoniously with nature, drawing guests into the lush surroundings of east Bali. Our efforts to date have resulted in inspiring bamboo structures that exemplify the perfect fusion of design and sustainability.
We like to push the boundaries of what is possible with bamboo and design in general at hideout. Countless shapes and concepts are explored. The first room any human ever experienced was the ‘womb’ and there are no right angles or straight lines there. With bamboo, we can bend and weave shapes from our imagination into reality. We provide Balinese full body massages with our experienced therapists. We have portable massage tables that we bring to your bamboo villa and we set up everything so you are in total privacy. The massage lasts for 60minutes. We use local organic coconut oil. We also offer a full body scrub and longer massages upon individual request. Kids are welcome to try also.
cooking lessons
After trying our Ayam Betutu, you will no doubt be wondering about the amazing spices that infused into that dish and our items on our menu. Join our private cooking lessons and learn step by step with our English speaking chef Wayan how to create some of the iconic Balinese dishes on our menu.
visit with a local shaman
Balinese culture and religion is very unique and visiting the head of our village and the shaman for the local people around Hideout’s location is truly a deep, spiritual experience. You would be joined with our English speaking guide and the shaman would come to your own house or you may also be permitted to visit the house of the shaman if you wish to embark more of a journey. The main aim is to cleanse your body of negative energy and assist with spiritual healing.

Feeling full of energy? Stretch your legs and see some of the beautiful views and cute jungle corners surrounding Hideout guided by an experienced English speaking member of the Hideout family. Just let us know and we’ll plan a hike together with you. More often that not, our dog Hoki will join in on the fun.
<< trip ideas – 30 minutes from hideout >>
There are a number of day trip options only 30 minutes away from Hideout (by car or scooter). Below we set out some of our favourite nearby top locations, which may be rich in nature, architecture or culture.
jagasatru waterfall
This waterfall is about a 30min walk from Hideout, or you can hop on a scooter and be there in 10 minutes. It’s easy to find, there is a small trek to reach it. It’s definitely better to have studier shoes. It’s not overcrowded and if you come after the rain, it is truly a photogenic location.
pura besakih
The main hindu temple of Indonesia is located just about a 30 minute scooter ride from Hideout. As this is the most holy place for Balinese, it can be an extremely busy location at any time of the year, especially if you come during a ceremony. It is better to go with an experienced English speaking guide that can provide you with proper traditional clothing and explain in more detail about Bali’s unique hindu religion and culture.
gembleng waterfall
Sidemen valley is famous for its views and beautiful nature. A favourite for many is the Sidemen natural rock pool of beneath Gembleng waterfall. It is about 15minutes away by scooter. This is also a holy place and well-worth a visit. Be prepared to climb some steps!
tirta gangga
Famous royal pool gardens of Amlapura. Take a stroll through a famous layout of connected stone steps above a pool with crystal clear waters and hundreds of large coy carps hungry for your food and attention. Approximately 30 minutes away and one Bali’s most visited places.
ujung temple
A former palace of the Karangasem kingdom, this place offers a wonderful taste of the rich history of the island, including paintings, historic buildings, beautifully arranged gardens and pools. It’s a rare combination of European, Chinese and Balinese architecture that’s worth a visit.

There are many places that are worth a longer day trip from Hideout. It is often best to combine a few locations to experience a variety of historical landmarks, traditional craftsmen and leisure activities at the beach to top off the day. Here are some of our recommendations!
tukad cepung waterfall
Located in Bangli area, around 60 minutes from Hideout, this waterfall stands out from most others. It’s located in a cave system, hidden between rocks – allowing the sun rays to shine through the water and create a rainbow effect inside the waterfall. Be prepare to climb stairs and pay a small entry fee.
pura lempuyang, the gates of heaven
Also known as Pura Luhur Lempuyang, this site is one of the oldest hindu temples in Bali and is considered one of the six most holy places on the island. Open between 7am-5pm, it allows visitors to admire the unbeatable views of Gunung Agung. If you know those famous reflection photographers, note that there are skilled Balinese in place, ready to help to take an amazing picture.
white sand beach
The “Virgin Beach” (also know as “Pasir Putih” or “white sand”), is our nearby favourite! One of the only white beaches in north-east Bali. It was not known for long time, yet in the last decade it has became a true gem of the Candidasa coastline. Our recommendation is to stay and eat at Warung Seabreeze – definitely try the grilled fish, freshly caught on the day together with Balinese sambal and spices, it will not disappoint!
padang bai beach
If you feel like snorkelling, just close to the beach and not far from Hideout, the Blue lagoon beach of Padang Bai is a good choice. If you catch the right time without large waves, the water is very clear with some well-preserved coral reefs close to the beach. At this location you can observe colourful fish and have a quick meal at nearby local warung.
pura goa lawah temple
For those who are brave! The bat-cave temple. This landmark is a uniquely built temple around an opening of a cave. You will hear (and smell) thousands of nectar bats (Eonycteris spelaea) chirping behind the shrines at the cave opening. A truly mythical place and unique place.
sorga chocolate factory
If you are having a sweet-tooth, we recommend visiting a small chocolate factory – not far from Virgin beach. They will give you a tour explaining and showing the life cycle of chocolate pods and finish with a tasting – both chocolate and their ice-cream.

Wondering what it’s like to spend some days in the jungle? Allow us to share a bit more information and our frequently asked questions, that will share a bit more about us, about our location, food at Hideout Bistro and transport options.
WHO WE ARE AND HOW WE WORK?
Hideout family is a small team created by our friends and families in local villages. We take care of Hideouts. We never thought we will be a hotel, so please don’t expect a 24/7 reception and services, but we do our best to provide the most relaxing and joyful experience. We are here for you every day, between 7 – 10 pm. if you want a daily clean-up, just let us know when you check-in or in the morning. We would never enter your Hideout without an invitation – but we are always happy to help in any way we can. Beware that the nearest ATM is from a local bank, it only accepts Mastercard. International ATM is about 35 minutes by car away – do come prepared!
FIRST TIME IN THE JUNGLE?
Hideout is part of local nature, our cleaning standards are at the highest, but that doesn’t stop occasional insect, furry caterpillar (that should have a sign – do not touch), frog, snake or mouse from visiting the house. Please consider this before booking and do not book this house if you are not prepared for an occasional encounter. We are immersed in nature. Animals are friends, not enemies. We urge you to always turn your lights on in the night when moving around the house or visiting the bathroom.
Did you know that a spider can make a new web in under 1 hour? With our biggest efforts to keep the houses perfect and insect free, you have to expect that there will be some spiders, some bugs and some mosquitos. That is just nature and we can’t do anything more for it. If you don’t feel comfortable with that, it is better to book a different type of accommodation than a bamboo house. The Internet is very poor and sometimes not working at all. We recommend being prepared for the off-the-grid experience.
HIDEOUT BISTRO
If you don’t feel like cooking or going out, don’t worry, we have a delicious Hideout Bistro – a kitchen concept! We provide breakfast (included in the price) lunch and dinner, and all can be brought to your house. We do not yet have restaurant seating, but you can enjoy the meals in the privacy of your Hideout.
Hideout Bistro is not an open restaurant – we do not serve to walk-in guests. Any ordered meal is served in the privacy of your Hideout. Menu is available at the house and can be sent over upon request before arrival. The Bistro is open from 8am-8pm. Beside meals, we also serve cold Bintang and wines from Sababay winery.
LOCATION
Please take a careful look at the map, we are over 90 minutes away from the Ubud and 2 hours from the city of Denpasar and the international airport. The closest city is Amlapura, 30min away. There is no night-life here. No bars, clubs, coffee houses or shops with imported products. We are this far from the city by choice. In the middle of rice fields with a calm setting next to the running river.
Hideout is within walking distance from a resort where you can have a lovely dinner in the restaurant with an unforgettable view of Gunung Agung. You can easily reach many traditional small shops/warung. There are so many things to explore around – by foot or by bike. Just to mention … you can go trekking through the rice fields, explore local waterfall Jagasatru, visit Tirta Gangga, Ujung Temple, go snorkelling or diving, visit the night market, visit shaman or local temples, go to experience Pura Besakih, have a wild day of rafting and many more.
