Effective September 5, 2018, Lombok International Airport Changes its Name to Zainuddin Abdul Madji International Airport.

In a decree issued by Indonesia’s Minister of Transportation, the name of the Lombok International Airport (LIA) was officially changed on September 5, 2018 to The Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport.

The Ministerial Decree Number KP 1421 of 2018 follow the tradition of naming major Indonesian airports after prominent historical figures in Indonesia. Zainuddin Abdul Madji (1898-1997) was a charismatic religious leader born in Selong, East Lombok who is credited with establishing the Nahdlatul Watham, a mass Islamic organization.

Zainuddi Abdul Madjid was named a national hero by Presidential decree in 2017.
